This winery is located about 1 hour outside of D.C., so it makes for a great day excursion.  Scott's Run Nature Preserve is a picturesque outdoor destination located in Fairfax County, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. One of my favorite hikes within 30 minutes of downtown D.C. This beautiful preserve offers a unique hiking experience, combining scenic trails, lush forests, and the enchanting Scott's Run waterfall. The preserve covers approximately 336 acres and is situated along the banks of the Potomac River. It is named after the beautiful Scott's Run stream that flows through the area, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The diverse ecosystem within the preserve provides a haven for wildlife and a variety of plant species, making it a popular spot for nature enthusiasts and hikers. One of the main attractions of Scott's Run Nature Preserve is the stunning waterfall. As you embark on your hike, you'll have the opportunity to witness the cascading waters of Scott's Run as they tumble down a series of rock formations, creating a mesmerizing sight and a soothing soundtrack. The preserve offers a network of well-maintained trails that cater to different skill levels and preferences. Whether you're a beginner seeking a leisurely stroll or an experienced hiker looking for a more challenging adventure, Scott's Run has something for everyone. One such place is the remnants of the Burling cabin site on top of a high cliff face. Additionally, make sure to follow the preserve's guidelines and practice Leave No Trace principles, ensuring the preservation of this natural gem for future generations. It may be uncommon, but I also love hiking my Oru Kayak and launching it into the Potomac. The path down to the waterfall can be easily traversed, and there are ample beaches to launch a kayak. Once in the water, you can explore Northward and check out all of the different tributaries. You may even come across adrenaline junkies rock climbing up shear rock faces. Overall, hiking Scott's Run Nature Preserve offers a delightful escape into nature, combining the beauty of waterfalls, forests, and wildlife. With its well-maintained trails and diverse landscape, this preserve is an excellent choice for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a peaceful and rejuvenating hiking experience.  |
